Listen, it doesn't take a genius to realize we're not perfectly free, just look on the news. On the other hand, only a rationalist believes is absolute determinism. There is a degree of balance and chaos in the universe. Your neurochemistry guides your thoughts so they manifest themselves from the subconscious. In this way, our minds are determined. However, with volition, I have the power to change my neurochemistry to produce the desired effects. Examples of this are consuming water and food, stimulant drugs like coffee, psychoactive drugs, and recreational drugs such as alcohol and marijuana. In this way, my choice to partake in this consumption changes the trajectory of the mind. Additionally, we are able to retrieve a good deal of information at will, this shows there is hope for a degree of free will.

As a living being, we have neural mechanisms, or modules, which instill a preference for positive stimuli and an aversion from negative stimuli. We then inherently label objects and beings as having a positive or negative valence. Since this labeling exists along a continuum, the extreme value of negative are called evil. Evil can be in you (as we often don't like to think but it is nevertheless true) or can be put onto you. We exist in a world of relationships. The only way to come to terms with the evil that exist within and around you is to liberate from these "conditions", maybe that's what we mean by death.

Evil is conscious harm caused by a sentient being on any creature that can feel pain. Indirectly also (if for example one were to destroy something that another being cherishes).

Inequality

When the sum misery of human beings is greater than the sum happiness.

The Evil is the entropy, the result of wrong element matching. It leads to absolute death.

The origin of evil is associated with aspects of reality that support Death.

Evil is the other side of the coin in that instead of serving communal survival, it serves individual interests. In hard times animals and early humans had to scrounge for sustenance, and hoard if possible for the harsh winter months. The more you have, the higher the chances you will survive to see another day. Steal your neighbor's bread and they might not survive, but you will. We have this inherent drive for more, no matter what period in history. More money, more things, more entertainment. Greed and power offer security, theyre the warm blankets that protect us from cold struggle. It doesnt matter how much "progress" we claim to make as a society, our core primal instincts will show one way or another. Today we can call a loved one on the opposite side of the world from a small handheld slab, transmitting the signal through satellites floating in space. We are so advanced, such progress. At the same time, in the same world, some bankers embezzle millions from others, there's genocide, murder, theft, even entire economies ruined to fill someone's pockets. The same story has repeated itself through history and we dont seem to get any better at getting rid of it, so I dont think we ever will. Evil is part of our DNA in the same way Good is.

Selfishness and self-absorption. . . when we think of our selves as the only thing, we cannot act in a way that doesn't harm others.

Death and anything that brings it closer.

Ego and desire. Selfishness and wanting things makes individuals put others down, rather that be by killing or stealing or even degrading others.

Humans.

Competition, separate-ness, an acute fear of the other.

Self hate, isolation, fear, social hierarchies....

Thoughts without respect to others

I don't think there is such a thing as good and evil at the universal level. Good and evil are subjective based on perspective. At the human level there is a belief that good perpetuates things and evil goes against what is human. But at the grand universe level, we are just a spec of dust in the enormity that exists and most of existence couldn't care less about our perceptions. I still think this is an important question for "us" (us = humans).

The Devil (yin and yang/good and evil... there is always an equal and opposite reaction)

Selfishness-- people wanting something that benefits themselves, without being able to understand someone else's wants, and not being able to compromise on that discrepancy

Scarcity. This results in hunger of all sorts. Which results in greed, war, and diminishing brotherly love.

Agriculture. Once man stepped out of his natural niche to be sedentary and pursue materialism, Pandora’s box furled open.

Selfishness and greed. Irrational fear of "the other." The idea that when you have more, I have less. The concept of the "pie" with it's slices that must be fought over.

Our scientific power has outrun our spiritual power. We have guided missiles and misguided men.

Bitterness is like cancer. It eats upon the host. But anger is like fire. It burns it all clean.

Prejudice is a burden that confuses the past, threatens the future and renders the present inaccessible.

The strategic adversary is fascism... the fascism in us all, in our heads and in our everyday behavior, the fascism that causes us to love power, to desire the very thing that dominates and exploits us.

People with advantages are loath to believe that they just happen to be people with advantages.

To paraphrase several sages: Nobody can think and hit someone at the same time.

Herein lies the tragedy of the age: not that men are poor, — all men know something of poverty; not that men are wicked, — who is good? not that men are ignorant, — what is Truth? Nay, but that men know so little of men.

Origin of evil is thinking of self always and not caring for others.

All men are liable to error - and most men are, in many points, by passion or interest, under temptation to it.

I should attempt to treat human vice and folly geometrically - the passions of hatred, anger, envy, and so on, considered in themselves, follow from the necessity and efficacy of nature.

I think fear is the source of evil though it is not inherently evil. It is the failure to utilize fear productively.

Less evolved spiritual evolution.

It is a violation of an order, a conscious or an unconscious one. Evil needs good to exist and keep the human species in progress.

There is no one source of evil. Evil can originate in fear, which can override cultural and societal constraints and thus separate us from our humanity and cause people to commit unthinkable acts. Neurological glitches can also be the source of evil.

The production of too many useful things results in too many useless people.

False words are not only evil in themselves, but they infect the soul with evil.

Anybody can become angry - that is easy, but to be angry with the right person and to the right degree and at the right time and for the right purpose, and in the right way - that is not within everybody's power and is not easy.

Origin of evil is good. If there is no good, there is no evil.

CB II-evil originates when a moral community is unable to function.

As good, evil is an adaptation and it is what we carry in our genome, given right environmental conditioning it will resurface.

Selfishness and arrogance.

Evil is the antithesis to good. Evil does not have properties that are inherent. Evil originates from when the first piece of sentient life in the universe made the conscious choice to rebel against the Creator of reality.

Mental illness. Organic and chemical deviations in a person's mind, or that of a parent's, or relational emotional trauma in youth.

Evil is the direct product of imbalance in nature. The yearnings of all substance is for balance and whenever the plus or the minus exceeds balance the universe spins out of control and there is no safety or satisfaction.

Fear and how that manifests into greed, violence, jealousy, and oppression.

It comes within ourself. As result of letting our desire running wild.

This is question that is found from one functioning against the inner meter that compromises individual integrity.

Evolutionary need of humans, whatever is felt harmful to progress and survival. There is no ABSOLUTE good or evil. What is evil to one is good for others, what is evil now , was good in past or will be in future.

Selfishness and ill intent. 

Anything which objectively - can only ever - subtracts from human well-being.

Greed and jealousy.

Lack of GUARD, watchfulness, effort, hard inward work, discipline, never ending coming back to the mirror, compassion-combined. Lack of education in a broad sense. Easy forgetting. Carelessness. Lack of the boring work of good.

Ignorance, the root and stem of every evil.

A deficiency or lack of mirror neurons. When people see other people as objects, they feel free to abuse them as they see fit.

Money is the origin of evil because it causes people to do bad things.

There is no evil. Only fear.

The neglected, unloved child who grew up not knowing why they were unloved.

Evil is a necessity required for the good to be noticed and appreciated as a contrary, for the good thrives by fighting the evil.

Oh come on, goodness and evil are concepts. Things just ARE. People can have evil intentions, that is, they can mean to harm. What we call pure evil is what I would call someone incapable of compassion.

Great spirits have always encountered violent opposition from mediocre minds.

Survival instincts and natural selection. We supposed to grow up and transform fear and greed of the caveman into the understanding and wisdom. I guess, we need to work harder on that. Tempus fugit.
